Introduction :

Forensic or Legal Medicine deals with the application of medical knowledge to aid in the administration of justice. It is used by legal authorities for the solution of legal problems. Examples include applying medical knowledge in deciding cases of injuries, murder, suicide, accident, asphyxial deaths, sexual offenses, and poisoning.

Museum:

The department has a well-equipped museum. Various charts, specimens, and food grains of nutritive importance are kept in the museum. In the demonstration room, many health education charts and boards are displayed.

Objectives :

The students will be able to:

  1. Prepare medico-legal report of an injured person due to mechanical violence.
  2. Preserve and dispatch exhibits in a suspected case of poisoning.
  3. Estimate the age of a person for medico-legal purposes.
  4. Examine and draw opinion from examination of skeletal remains.
  5. Identify and draw medico-legal inference from various specimens of injuries.
  6. Identify and describe weapons commonly used and explain their medico-legal importance.
  7. Identify and draw medico-legal inference from common poisons.

Demonstration / Identification Examples: Poisons, weapons, charts, photographs.

Certificate Writing Examples: Sickness certificate, Physical and Death Certificate, Postmortem examination reports.
